It may have been a Remington-Keene rifle.

I have to disagree. The bad guy on the rock had the Remington-Keene. The cased rifle eastwood used was, I thought, a Holland and Holland take down model. I haven't a clue as to the scopes on either rifle.
I did notice what I think is one gun screw up though. At the end of the movie, look at the Savage 99 Robert Duval is using. Looks awfully damned modern for the early 1900s to me, all engraved, gold inlayed, and a big Monte Carlo butt stock???? Scope looked way too modern for the period as well.
Good movie though as there were other guns besides Colts and Winchesters. Don't see too much of that in most westerns.

Not sure where to post this question, maybe someone can refer me to a better place.

I am trying to determine a gun from a movie. The Clint Eastwood movie Joe Kidd. Wondering what the scoped rifle is that he uses to shoot the guy off the rock is? I want to say a winchester 54 or something similar, but i also think it has the side bolt release like a Mauser. Wondering what the scope is too. Anybody have any idea what the gun is, or where i should go to find out this information?

Thanks for your time guys.

I believe that the "1 inch gatling gun" that you are refering to is now in the possesion of Sarco. I've seen the one they have and it's a 37mm Hotchkiss style gun made by Gatling. It's an impressive sucker, but really a display piece as it's too valuable to shoot coupled with the scarcity of ammo.

Yes it was a Remington-Keene.Obviously large caliber, maybe .45 ? The best gun" movie was the TNT movie about the Spanish-American war ,directed by gun-nut John Milius. All his movies are authentic with guns and other things .That TNT movie had all the black powder guns using black powder and the more modern guns using smokeless. They even had a 1" Gatling gun!

I agree with Paul B. The gun that the guy on the rock has is the Remington-Keene. I will look into the holland and holland takedown. The cased rifle is what i am interested in. I love that seen from the movie and have been looking to make a gun as similar as i can to that.

thanks guys
