Hello - I asked this question on Medium Bores and didn't get answer.

What is a good contour for a 7 mm Rem Mag sporter in 26"? I have an old FN Mauser and it has a #5 barrel on it and it's a pig. Would a #3 in 26" be to light or just right?

It depends up who's #3 you're talking about, they're not all the same. You've got to look at their specs to figure out how heavy their barrels are, one maker's #2 might be heavier than another's #3. Most maker's #2's are around a winchester or remington factory contour. That would be as heavy as I'd want to go on a general purpose hunting rifle. My own winchester M70 7mm mag has a brux barrel in the factory contour finished at 24.5". I've had 7mm mag's in 24, 24.5, 26, and 27" and I've decided that no hunting rifle is getting a barrel longer than the 24.5" one I have now.
