I mistakenly posted this question on the big bore forum. How extensive would the modifications be to the M70 classic to get it to feed the 500 Jeffery?

Anyone actually perform this conversion...yet?

Thanks,
Axel

It think it could be done but it would take a lot of modification and the end result would be up for questioning IMO.....I would be more concerned about running out of width or the rail work than lenth..and locating a proper box.

Better to use an Enfield or a Mod. 20 Mauser copy I think...but I would have to do a lot of measuring before I would commit 100% either way.

I have only built 404's on the M-70 and M-98...which works fine.

It will be very tight and you have to put down a lot of work to make it function properly. I would suggest CZ550 action, or any of thoose Atkison recommeded. I think that 404 is about maximum to convert a mod 70 for with not too much efforts. You can get the same type of safety on the other mentioned actions. What kind of budget are you working on?

Have you ever considered getting a 450 rigby rimless or something more common tha the 500 jeffery.

I think the cheapest road to a big banger is to buy a CZ .416 rigby and re-barrel & chamber for the .500 A2.
