All, I've been given the Charles Daly Auto-Pointer. It's a Browning A-5 lookalike, and the takedown and parts are similar. But there's no tang with a stock retention bolt, so I can't take off the buttstock and get to the tube that houses the action spring. I took off the butt plate, and I see the back end of the tube through an access hole. Looks like there's a flat on one side of the tube. Also looks like there's a retaining pin crossways to the tube to hold the spring. Anybody know how to get to it? The thing always jammed. The guy said he was using duck and goose loads, and the friction rings were set up for "heavy loads". It was filthy. Anyway, I'd like to clean the action spring and tube while it's apart to make sure it's not dragging. Thanks for any help, Steve

Got it. There's a black, 1" (and therefore almost invisible) hex nut on the back end of the action spring tube. An 11/16" deep socket with an extension through the access hole under the butt plate loosens it so you can separate the butt stock from the receiver. I'll leave this here for the archives in case somebody else ever needs it. Steve
