Rusty McGee's latest job for preventing battering of box by bullets in recoil,
blued after the shaping and soldering: Does it get any better than this, short of full custom bottom metal by Duane Wiebe?








The above are from a couple of 500 Mbogos.
One new non-ribbed box replaced a dented old ribbed one, that started off in a .416 Rigby.
The second one was undamaged in a .458 WinMag that got rebarreled to 500 Mbogo.

It's much easier on Rusty's time to start off with an undamaged box.

Though one could hammer out the ribs on the sides and the dents in the front of an old box, and JB Weld a piece of steel on the front of the box himself,
that would be nowhere near as pretty.

I got one of the non-ribbed boxes from CZ-USA for $18.00.
New action screws for the 550 Magnum are $2.00 each.



BTW, the front of one of Duane Wiebe's boxes that I have is already about 0.25" thick in the front wall steel.
Rusty is fitting that complete bottom metal to an FN Mauser.
