500Nitro/Ruger#1 Rebarrel
Who would be a good gunsmith to rebarrel a Ruger#1 30-06 to 500Nitro? No fancy sights, just a new barrel, chamber & extractor work. Whose barrel would you use? Pac-Nor?

i used a mcgowen bbl on mine but i did the barrelling myself. mcgowen as of latest list tho still doesn't offer the 500NE.

I would just send the kit to pacnor.. call first...

if they won't do it.. i'll refit your 510 wells barrel to it...

just drop the brevex barreled action off at my house.. with the ruger #1.. i'll give you the ruger in 500 NE and the old barrel back... you won't need that too dang big ole mauser action anymore...

open rear of action...yep. i had to take out a little in the trough on the breech block and work the rest of action out accordingly. unless someone does internal mods to allow breech block to drop lower i don't see how larger rounds are accomodated in that action.

am i the only one who'd stand in line during a blizzard to buy a scaled up #1 in 577 or 600 from the factory if ruger'd offer it?

I've read this is necessary for the 577 but did not realize it was also true for the 500.

it was at least true when i tried it on this one rifle. was not much. i'm thinking .020 or .030". was just binding a hair as the rim hit the trough and forced the upper side of the case into the chamber mouth. however, i started w/ a #1 in 300winmag and i've no idea if there are different breechblocks (so far as loading troughs).
