I was thinking about my custom Swedish Mauser. Its 6.5X55, but I was thinking, "Shit why not put a lager case behind that 6.5?".

The action was made in '43 and is the mod 96. I love that lil Sweed but why not get it shooting flatter?

Now I was wondering if the action will hold up if I increased the shell size? If so, what kind of safety window do I have?
Thanks guys!
James

Build my own CNC router from scratch. I installed the hight wrong. My hight moves but the rails blocks 3/4 of the hight.....

Pressure not shell size is the main issue. I would leave well enough alone.

As usual just my $.02

If it were built on a stronger action then you would have more options but you wont improve on the round you have much and remain within safe M-96 pressures.

I would suggest simply using a chrony and trying some different powder/bullet combinations to optimize what you already have. It is not unheard of to gain 100 fs or so by simply finding the right combo for your gun.

Thanks, been working on that. But I was just tossing the idea around in my head. A friend of mine is looking for a 6.5-06. I was wondering if pushing the 55mm case out to the 06 at 61mm.

I know the pressure is the issue. That is why I was asking. Thanks though! Where would I look to find the information on the pressure topic?

Hey if your bolt will function with an 06 case and your magazine will hold it and you want to load a 6.5-06 down to 55,000 it is your rifle.

I wouldn't load a 96 past 55,000 and a 6.5-06 loaded down to that pressure will give you a very marginal increase. I've never loaded a 6.5-06 that low nor much experience with a 6.5-55 but QL calls the difference 50-75fps
