I saw a small blurb for this in my latest gun mag. So how is the CZ quality? I'd love to have a lefty bolt .22LR for cheap plinkin' fun.

got one and have had it several months. it is pretty accurate and has gotten a little better after a bunch of shooting. nice thing about 22's, cheap to shoot while finding the flavor of ammo it likes. it is about standard factory quality. mine, the barrel was pressing on the one side of the barrel channel and i relieved it to float the whole thing. the trigger sucked and i eventually bought an aftermarket sear for it and it made it a whole lot user friendly. it isn't in the class as my anschutz but it only cost about half as much and it is better than half as good. i think it is a good buy for the money spent but it wasn't perfect from the factory.

If the quality is as good as your garden variety Marlin M60 or Ruger 10/22, I can deal with it. What did you pay for yours?

The quality of the CZ 452 is HEAD AND SHOULDERS above any 10/22 or any Marlin (except the 39). The only Ruger of comparable quality is the 77/22. I paid $230 for my 452, because it is the Standard model, stocked in beech. If you want a 452 American or Lux (walnut stocked), they'll run about $100 more.

The CZ452 is a great little rifle for not much money for the quality you get. The trigger needs some help. But Brownells sells a sear kit that works well. The barrel on the 22 version is threaded instead of being pinned. Out of the box accuracy can be expected to be 1/2 inch at 50 yrds with proper ammo. A little tweaking and tuning will take it down to .75 MOA. Theres a CZ forum at RimfireCentral thats got lots of information. rootbeer, the quality, as others alluded to, is way better than any marlin 22 bolt gun ever made. it is on the same plane as the ruger 77/22. i have the walnut stocked version and i believe it was in the low to mid three hundred dollar range. max

I think they are by far the best 22 available for the money. There isnt another 22 that will come close to them for less than $500. And then they will be hard pressed to beat them. I have several CZ rifles and think the world of them. But they can definately be improved with some TLC. As mentioned above, their triggers on their 22's need some work. They can be adjusted fairly easily and are a no brainer for a good gunsmith to hone into a superb trigger. They are now offering a set trigger like their centerfires use and are calling it the 453. The next isssue is their bedding. I have had to bed and free float all of my CZ rifles for them to achieve their full potential. All 3 of my CZ 22's, including the Scout model I have, turned into MOA rifles after getting bedded and floated. And finally my last gripe is the nasty factory finish that CZ uses. The finish is a heavily tinted poly-eurethane of some type. It is probably the closest thing I have ever seen to indestructable, especially if you are trying to remove it. But CZ often puts some incredible wood on their rifles. If you want to do some looking around you should be able to find a real good looking stocked rifle. They are definately worth the effort of re-finishing the stock. Check out my thread on CZ stocks to see just what potential they do have. CZ Stocks Definately pick a CZ 452 up for your late Christmas present to yourself and have fun with it. Even right out of the box they still shoot very well and will give you an awesome rifle for the money. And then if you want to really make it show its full potential you can have a lot of fun doing the bedding, trigger, and stock yourself. I have an Anschutz 1416LD, which is their left-hand .22LR sporter, so the CZ doesn't interest me much. And my left-hand Savage 93GLV .17HMR shoots absurdly well at half the price of the CZ. CZ just waited too damned long to come out with a left-hand rimfire. George

I changed the spring in the trigger of my Rem 581 LH and bedded the action and it will shoot 5 shot groups at 50 yards under 1/2. But my hat is off to CZ when most companies are reducing there left hand offerings. I just wished CZ would offer some really big bores left handed. They would clean up. My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

GeorgeS, I have a Savage Striker in .17HMR. I like the gun and the way it feels in my hand when I fire it. What I don't like is the way it feels in my wallet when I feed it. I know the .17 offers better ballistics than the .22 but at $8 a box, I tell myself I'm having more fun unleashing my 300WSM, 1000-yard MRC rig at 50-60 cents a pop. Gun people are strange ones, indeed...
