Is a newer model 70 classic barrel compatible with a pre-64 action?

Thanks,

I've done it, but had to modify the extractor cut and it it had had iron sights they would have been out of position. However you could cut a new thread and set it back to square everything up.

I have a Classic barrel that I screwed on my pre-64 just to see how it fit. It came up a little short. It looks like it would fit fine if the shoulder was cut back a bit. I don't know what headspace would be like.

I don't understand how the sights could be off? If you line up the extrctor slot the sights will be on top!

Once you get the extractor slot lined up, then you can correct the head space if needed.

Odds are you will have to set the shoulder back a bit to line it up, and then the chamber will be too short.

Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.
