Hi guys, My SRH with 9.5" barrel is very accurate with unsized Lee 310gn WW cast and 300gn & 270gn jacketed projectiles. 240gn cast and jacketed, and lighter bullets, are a different story. The barrel seems to be spot on .429", the cylinder throats are .430". Does anyone think reaming the cylinder throats out a little would help with lighter projectiles? If so, how much? Thanks, Albatross.

No, that is probably not going to help. I'm not a pistol smith, but the only thing worse than too small throats is too big. 430 sounds about right for a 429 bore. Leave it alone and try different powders, bullet diameters, or alloy hardness in the lighter bullets if you must. My Super Blackhawk Hunter has similar dimensions but is the opposite, shoots lights out with the light stuff but not so much with the heavies. I could be the problem, but I've learned to accept the 4" groups at 100 with the 300gr bullets when the 240's will do 2" with a scope mounted.

Those are perfect dimensions and a quality cast bullet sized to .430" should shoot well.

Well generally, accuracy seems better with H110 and 310 gn WW GCed, lubed with a 50/50 liquid alox and Johnson's paste wax. Blue Dot is OK, but accuracy is variable. The reason I asked about cylinder throats is that I was thinking the longer bearing surface of heavier bullets helped with bore stability, if the bullet was too close to bore diameter [if this is even a problem]. What I have noticed is the heavy Lee bullet can be shot in a range of configurations [without a GC, commercial or home brew lube, liquid alox, paste wax, varoius alloys, etc] with decent accuracy. In my SRH, I've found 240gn TL with medium to fast powders are dissapointing. Of course, I can experiment ad infinitum with loads, but reaming is a one time thing. Thanks for the advice, Albatross.
