Ok heres the problem. My wife is tired of shooting a right handed rifle left handed and now she wants a left hand rifle.
She is now shooting a right handed Ruger in 6.5x55 with a H S Precision stock that has had the length of pull cut to fit her. What she wants, a left handed rifle with little recoil and with a synthetic stock. My first thought was a new L.H. .260 Remington, I was sure nobody made a L.H. 6.5x55. Well guess what, Ruger, Browning, Remington or Winchester don't make a L.H. .260 or anything else in a short action!

So heres my 2nd solution. Buy a used L.H. Ruger in .270win and swap the barrels. Then sell the R.H. .270win. The problem with this is will the .270 bolt and magazine work and feed the 6.5x55? Can the H S Percision stock be converted to L.H., I have the original wood stock for the R.H., or will I have to buy a new stock, maybe Bell and Carson, and have it cut to fit?

3rd solution sell the Ruger. Buy a used .270 Remingtion have it rebarreled to 6.5x55. Buy a synthetic stock and have it fitted.

Whats your solution and who would you recommend to do this? What would be the pros and cons. Cost is some what a factor, what would be your estimate of each solution?
Gunsmith quotes are welcome. If you prefer
you can email me at sig202_65x55@hotmail.com.
As you can tell we are partial to the 6.5x55 and reload so another caliber is not an option. Mark

being that the .270 is a 30-06 necked to .270 you will only have .150 inches deferance between the two and in favor of your 6.5X55mm. It should not be a problem especialy because the ruger has a claw extractor not push feed. This will help control the nose of the bullet as you chamber it. and easy way to find out is make a few dummy rounds and try them in a friends .270.

Ditto on the Tikka. Nice action, good shooters. I have a 6.5x55 Tikka that shoots Fed Classic 140gr. into one hole @ 100yds.

Forgot to mention that Bud is not cheep he builds custom rifles and is a master stock maker. Even if he had one of his apprentices work on your rifle I think you might find a better deal locally.
the tikka is a push feed gun, Now before I get read the riot act let me say that I HAVE NO MECHANICAL PROBLEM WITH A PUSH FEED ACTION. I just prefer a claw extractor and manual ejection. I also shot a longbow so you can see where that comes from. you may also be partial to the 98 action although your wife may not care. I know mine doesn't

PS a friend of mine use 30-06 brass and loads his 6.5X55 to modern pressures(55,000),He also has an Ohler ballistics lab so he can do this with a fair degree of accuracy

Kerry, again thanks for the help. But there isn't a local gunsmith I trust to get the job done. Its another story but I'm still waiting on some work I was promised the first of November.

Alstro and Daryl. Tikka, good idea, never owned one but I've seen and held one. I think theres even a dealer in town. Kerry's right she could care less and doesn't know what CRF is. I'm sorry I've tried. I looked at the Tikka link, the L.H. Hunter is a wood stock, any leads on a synthetic.Mark

mark65x55,

In case you need an alternative :
Savage model 11G comes in .260 Remington
It's in their "Hunter series", GL is the left-handed model.
