do you REALLY need a floorplate???
i bought another p17 eddystone enfield in austin saturday for $140... it's been restocked in a nice, pistolgrip piece of straight-grained wood....but with a blind magazine, instead of the enfield floorplate.... this project will be a truck gun krieger barreled .416 taylor (tip burns, here it comes)....as a 30-06, it will hold 4 down.... question is, appearance aside, what is the advantage/disadvantage of a non-floorplate rifle???...i figure 3 down with taylor...

go big or go home ........

Less chance of the floorplate catch jarring open under recoil is the only difference I can think of.

A floorplate (hinged) is classic....nothing more and nothing less!

The only advatages that I know of are that it's quicker to unload and you don't have to cycle the rounds through the action to do it.

Another advantage that is more applicable to miltary rather than sporting use, is if the action happens to take on a load of dirt, mud, sand or even snow, the plate can be dropped and the action can be somewhat cleaned or flushed from the top down without removing the action from the stock.
