Hellos guys, I have been visiting this board for a while but never posted before. I like to say that this is the #1 board with lots of knowledgeable people. What I trying to find is some receiver engraving tools. A friend of mine is retiring and he said that he would like to learn how to engrave in receivers. Can you guys point me on the right direction?

Brownells crries a full line of engraving tools and supplies.

www.brownells.com is probably the best place to get started. Go to the library and get some books on engraving. Also check out ebay, they seem to have most everything there too.

I have a related question. I have a 98/22 with the three line cerst on it. The front ring looked as though someone had been banging on it with a hammer. It had little peen marks all along the top. I've stoned out all the peening but it has left some of the lettering a little shallow. I'd like to try to restore it. Any tips and suggestions would be appreciated. I've never tried any sort of engraving so have no tools.

This will be a nice little open sight rifle when I'm done but the receiver isn't quite nice enough to pay someone to do it right. If ya know what I mean.

I know what you mean about the cost versus value. But, if you don't want to pay to have it done. Leave it as is. It will look better in the long run.

Look around for a local gun engraver before you give up on having it done. You might be surprised at the price. Recutting lettering is usually fairly inexpensive. Good luck!

Luis, I see you too are from OK. You need to take a drive down to Davis, OK and visit Jantz supply. They carry a full line of engraving supplies, and most if not all are cheaper than Brownells. My girlfriend gets almost all her supplies there. Best thing is, you can see it before you buy it.
