Why is it again that one cannot use two piece bottom metal on a 98 mauser?

jeffeossodepends on the pieces .. a 3 piece arrangement, like a model 70, is not going to work as well .. but, thinking about it for a second, a blind mag is kind of the same thing, right?
there's no reason a 2 piece, like an enfield, couldn't work .. in fact, its easier to make mag boxes

I asked the question because I have a number of 1909 bottom metals. Their boxes are a bit short. Rather than some jury rig type of arrangement, I was thinking of just cutting off the boxes and making new ones that were a bit longer, but not welding or attaching them to the rest of the unit.

I believe 22WRF means a bottom metal with a separate mag box, similar to the model 70.
The answer is: yes you can make a bottom metal and separate mag box for the Mauser. It would have the benefit of being cheaper to manufacture that a one piece unit. The downside is that you lose one of the basic features of the Mauser 98 system.
But the real question is, why go to all the trouble? There are a lot of cheap Mauser knockoffs that already employ this cost cutting feature. Some even claim that they share 99% of their DNA with the Mauser......
