What are your general rules for inch/pound settings for various action/stock combinations? For instance, a Winchester coyote with laminate stock, skim bedded but no pillars? Any differences for front vs. rear screws? I'd be interested in a table or guide that would work for various factory actions/stock combos...anyone know of one? I finally picked up a used snap-on torquemeter (1/4 inch drive/screwdriver kind with dial) which is a very slick tool, because with the right socket head it accepts all my different bits. So now I need to put this sucker to good use! Thanks in advance

I take my tightening clue from the M-1 and M-14 rifle. If I remember correctily, both action on these rifles lay in the stock without any, or at least very little torque holding them down. I'm racking my brain trying to remember the actual mechanical device that held stock and action together. I know I pulled the rear of the trigger guard down, pulled out the trigger and then everything came out. Now days, I just snug the action screws. The only function of the screws is to hold the stock to the action without any slop between the two. If there is any other purpose for the action screw, it escapes me. A few years back I was hunting with a guy in Colorado. He bolt stared to jam. He told me he had taken the action out for cleaning before the hunting season. Long story short, he tightened the screw so tight the bold started binding. Released the torque and his action worked fine.
