I just assembled my parts on one of my Mauser projects.

HOLLY Sheep dip this thing weighs close to ten pounds,,, This baby needs to lose some weight...

How heavy, have your Mauser projects finished ended up weighing?

25in 6.5x55 barrel laminated thumbhole stock, etc.

Laminate stocks are heavier than synthetic & walnut. 22" barrels are lighter than 25" barrels

Sand on your stock and cut your barrel down.
Or just leave it alone and shoot the barrel out of it.

Last year I built up a 270 Wby on a VZ-24 action with a 26" PacNor #2 contour barrel . The finished product with scope and mounts weighs about 8 3/4 lbs.

The year before that I rebarreled a Rem 700 to 7mm STW and used a way too heavy contour for the barrel and the rifle tipped the scales in excess of 10 lbs with scope. I took the barrel off, sent it back to PacNor and ask them to redo the contour to a #2 and also to flute it. Now it weighs in at 8 lbs 2 oz with scope. PacNor only charged $35 to recontour the barrel. The fluting was $125.

I got my new Mauser actioned custom just before Christmas, Douglas 24" light sporter barrel, VZ-24 action, Bell and Carlson synthetic stock, it's about 8.75 lb.s with the 6x45 Seeadler scope. May seem a little heavy for a .275 Rigby but it's a real shooter. I got to the range yesterday and in a strong swirling wind it still shot factory Remington 140 gr. loads at an 1-1.25" from a sitting position with sling.

The 98's I have (5) all weigh in right around 9lbs (+/-), scoped. I also have a Springfield with a 22" "featherweight" barrel that weighs just about the same. These have wood stocks. I just weighed a sythetic stocked 98 that's 8 1/2lbs. Also a Swede 96 sporter with an 18" barrel that's right @ 7lbs. I think its pretty hard to build an ultralight using a Mauser action.

Good dense and dark walnut, steel mounts, steel 6x42 #1.5 profile 24" inches, around 9lbs.

Hurts the shoulder after 2 hours, I switch sides and remember how well it points and shoots.
