vapodogM-70 clone actions/rifles
It has been reported that both Browning and E R Shaw will be producing M-70 clone actions/barreled actions or complete rifles.
Does anyone have additional knowlege or other information confirming (or disproving) this claim?

Lfalermy understanding is that browning has acquired the rights/license/whatever to start making winchester rifles. Just relaying second hand info FWIW.

Jim,
I don't have an E R Shaw barrel in the house but a friend wanted a cheapie a few months back and I inquired of Shaw
They were 16 weeks for a barrel blank and 6 months to install it.....
Anyone that is six months backed up on a project that can be done in a few hours has no business in deciding to make actions as well.....they need to decide on how to fix their existing business first.

jeffeossobrowning is an FN company, and they aqquired the rights to winchester license...
er shaw, well... hmmmm, that would be a tough one, based on the value proposition and turn around.
dakota and mrc seem to be going broke trying to do it, though

dempseyVapo, some would make the argument that if Shaw is backed up that means they're good.

Never dealt with them myself. I heard the Model 70 will be back in 2008, probably FN. Could be bunk though.

tin canExcuse the hijack-
M70 question:
I see gunsmiths and companies advertising all over that blueprint Remingtons, but I don't recall any that mention Winchesters. I don't think I recall anyone mentioning on the boards that they had a M70 printed; are they?

IdaredI won't necessarily say Shaw is behind because they are good, but they are behind because they sell that many barrels. As much as they get bad-mouthed the real fact of the matter is they fill a niche that obviously has considerable need to many people. I doubt there is another barrel maker in the U.S. who turns out as many barrels and barreling jobs as they do. Say what you want, they are doing something right or they wouldn't still be doing the business they are.
As to them turning out Model 70s, I would have to see that to believe it. The tooling would have to be procured from somewhere and I would guess other companies would have a better shot at making a go of it than they would. I could see them making barrels for someone who might be making the actions for a new model 70 type rifle. Their barrels are equal to the best factory tubes from my past experience.

dempseyIdared, my comment was tongue in cheek. I have no experience with them. Many people bitch about them and many of these same people say a "good" Smith is always backed up. I just thought it was ironic.

Is this a baited question???
OK I'll bite.
Being a pre 64 mod 70 afficionado, they don't really need to be "printed" unlike Rem POS actions, they're just fine the way they are....
That's why they've earned the name "The Rifleman's Rifle."

My reply wasn't directed to you in particular as I actually aggree with much of what you said.
I really have long wondered how a company can be so busy if all they turn out is crap. From what I have seen lately it is tough to get a really bad barrel that won't suffice for a hunting rifle nowdays. Minute of deer and elk doesn't require a whole lot in most cases.
