It appears to have been made in 1960.

Chris, thanks for that. It is a 220 swift would you be able to help with my questions on my other thread in this gunsmithing forum about this rifle. It would be appreciated.

Chris being a 1960 pre 64 and not pre war is this still desireable ??

Depending on condition it could fetch anywhere from a max of $1500 for a new in the box hangtag rifle to a little as $500 for a shot out barrel...
In nice condition it would average about $800 give or take a hundred dollar bill....

Yes, pre 64 M-70 are bringing good prices today as always. The pre war guns bring about a $100 more on average....but are less desirable as a hunting rifle because of the backwards safty...I think the best pre 64's were made from 1950 to 1953...

PC: My book shows the serial numbers of completed pre-64Model 70 Rifles on December 12th 1960 ended at 502,070 the next notation in my reference shows the serial number of completed Rifles on January 5th 1961 at 505001. Your serial number of 5047XX would put its completion right in the first few days of 1961. My reference is the wonderful (and now very expensive!) book "The Riflemans Rifle" by Roger Rule 1982.
Long live the Model 70 "The Riflemans Rifle"!
