This inflation calculator web page says that a $124 M70 in 1950 would be just over $900 today. I guessed at the $124 price. Back then The MS and FN Mausers cost more.



There was an economy FN Mauser already at that time in the JC Higgins.



Here in CT, USA during the 50's Winchester got a law passed called "Free Trade" and it ment no discounting. If a dealer sold a gun less than the suggested retail they would end the relationship legally. Thus it was almost impossible to get a discount on a Winchester product.



Back then Mausers and MS's were not popular due to the war just being over. Plus there were millions of them for sale at less than ten bucks not counting the ones brought home by our soldiers.



Common sense was that you made your own from a surplus gun. The new Remington was a hit at that time due to the accuracy of the 222.
