Can a barrel originally chambered for the 243 WIN be re-chambered to the 6mm REM cartridge?

Would the barrel need to be set back any to ensure the old chamber cleans up?

Thanks for the help,
Kevin Confused

The barrel needs to be set back.

Good luck!

A 6mm Rem will not clean up a 243W chamber without MAJOR setback. The 6mm case has less body taper. A quick look before coffee says you would need to set the barrel back in the range of .85"+ before the 6mm body is thick enough to clean up the 243 shoulder. A 6mmAI would clean up a 243.

As usual just my $.02

Definately go to the .244 (6mm) A.I. version if rechambering a .243. Rechambering for the standard 6mm Rem is impractical for the reasons stated above.
