I have a Virgin Valley gun that was delivered right before the company went out of business, . In using the muzzleloader barrel, the gun is shooting 6 inches high at 50 yards. The Williams peep gun sight, from the butt stock, has 2 screws on top , the one on the right is bigger than one in the middle of the sight. Which adjusts down? The screws were very tight on the sights and I was afraid to strip the heads last time I shot. The screws are being soaked in Kroil right now. Thanks for the help. Seeker

Really need to know which model Williams sight (5D, etc.) you are trying to adjust. Also, you might check the Williams website for a instruction/owners manual for your particular sight.

Why not just turn one of the screws and see which direction the aperture moves? It ain’t like something is going to blow up or anything.

IF the sight is the FOOLPROOF, which it sure sounds like, the smaller screw is a lock screw which when tightened keeps you from moving the adjustment screw. Loosen the lock screw, then the adjustment screw should turn, and as it does, you can feel the "clicks". The value of each click is 1/4 MOA, or 1/8th of an inch at 50 yards, 1/4th inch at 100, 1/2" at 200, 1" @ 400, etc. So if you rifle is shooting +6 @ 50 yards, you need to move it DOWN 8 clicks for each inch, or 48 clicks to get it dead on. IF I RECALL CORRECTLY, on the FOOLPROOF sight, turning the elevation adjustment screw clockwise lowers the sight-but check this out as you turn it to make sure the sight bar is moving down! Make sure you UNLOCK the adjustment screw before you try to turn it-otherwise, you're gonna mess up the sight! After you get it zeroed the way you want, re-lock the lock screw to keep the thing set that way! I don't think the Kroil is either needed or able to do you much good, unless the lock screw has been unlocked and the adjustment screw still won't rotate! "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

We've been through the Foolproof adjustments on another forum where he suggested it might be a Lyman but it doesn't sound like a Lyman receiver sight to me. However it's still not clear to me if the Foolproof is the sight he has. I wonder if it isn't the Williams Guide Receiver Sight for muzzleloaders. Seeker should do some seeking on the internet for Williams Gun Sights and try to determine just what he actually has. stocker
