I have "inherited" a rifle with a poor chamber job, but a good caliber and little used barrel. (6mm/284 Win) The problem lies only in the neck area which is too thin for my tastes, and requires mega turning to prep the brass. The question is can there be an "easy way" to fix this? Any recomendations... the former "smith" is gone to a new CNC place in heaven as well. Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! Ja, Find a smith with a "neck and throat" reamer for 6mm caliber chambers. If you want a special throat order one from Dave Kiff or Dave Manson to your specifications.

It might be cheaper to find a smith with a 6/284 reamer, have him set the barrel back a thread and recut the entire chamber. Okie John "The 30-06 works. Period." --Finn Aagaard

Thanks Guys, I appreciate the thoughts. I think that so little metal needs to be removed, that a good touch and a reamer for the neck/throat as suggested is the best course. Setting the barrel back would necessitate the rebedding and so forth... more trouble than it's worth area. Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now!
