Does anyone know what the rear screw on a rem 7 is supposed to be? It doesn't look like 8-32 and it's not quite 8-40. Maybe it's 9-37 and third?

Pretty frustrating; it's about to become an M5...

8 x 36 TPI
1/4 x 28 TPI

When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!

The 700's use the 1/4 in. screw and the M7 uses the #8.

coffee 1/4 x 28 and 8 x 36 are both standard, unified machine screw sizes. You can pick up boxes of them in hex head configuration at most of the fastener places. The only headache in small towns is that you have to special order them in 2 or 2-1/4 inch length which normally takes a couple of days.
