I never really gave the use of the RUM for moose much thought. I really felt that the bullet selection available was too light for the purpose. I have always used at least 250 grainers in a .338 Win.Mag. for moose. What bullets do you think would work in the RUM for game this size. I also have to keep in mind that there is a possibility of running into a BIG bear. In your opinion, is the RUM going to be enough gun if this should happen? I think not. What's your opinion?

I think the 7mm RUM would knock a moose flat. Period. Bears are another story and different people are going to be of different opinions based on "gut feeling". I think it would do the job. If you're worried about bullet weight, then look at something like the 175 gr. Sierra, or a 175 gr. A-Frame, or 175 gr. Barnes. The Swift or the Barnes would be my first choices.

Back in 1966, I bought a used FN Mauser, 270 Win. It wouldn't shoot worth beans. I finally took it to the Lefever Gunshop in Illion, N.Y. Yup! The same shop that was decended from the famous shotgun maker. As I recall, the walls on 3 sides were covered with guns and they even had a wooden floor. A grand old shop with lottsa atmosphere. Don't know if they're still in business or not but you might want to give them a try.
