bobcWill a 300 H&H re-chamber clean up a 30-06?
Can a 30-06 be re-chambered to 300 H&H without setting back the barrel? Thanks in advance to the in-house gunsmiths.

willmckeei built solid computer models of both rounds once to answer this very question. still have it saved at work but my recollection is the shoulder of the 30-06 was extremely close to being outside the case wall of the 300H&H. i'll check tomorrow but my recollection is i was very concerned. if the '06 chamber were at max headspace and the 300 was cut to min i think there could have been a slight anulus left at the '06's shoulder/case body juncture but i may be remembering wrong. the extreme taper of the H&H case drops off diameter fast.

willmckeemy mistake. i was in fact misremembering. it is close tho. based on the reamer dimensions off clymers website, the shoulder of the 30-06 is only .006" away from the chamber wall of the 300H&H however it is most definitely on the inside. provided the original 30-06 chamber is within specs it should clean up perfectly.
i'd run thru that scenario for several rechambering options and was thinking of the wrong combination.
sorry

bobcThanks, guys. I'm contemplating converting a Ruger #1 to 300 H&H. Bob

tiggertateSounds like the first thing to check is concentricity of the existing chamber. If it's lopsided you could end up with some overlap at the shoulder.
