Does anyone know if the rifling twist in the .30/06 is acceptable for converting the 30/06 to a .300 H&H. I have a M700 that has enough room in the blind magazine (ADL) to accomodate the .300 H&H. Do I need more than a re-chamber? Will the bolt face work? Is this a practical project? Thanks

In order: yes;yes; no; maybe. Years ago the conversion most often seen was .30-'06 to .308 Norma Mag. The 10" twist standard for the '06 is also standard for most .300s too. Once upon a time the Rem M721 (it and the M722 were the forerunners to the M700) came from the factory in .300 H&H. The bolt face must be opened up from the .470" cartridge head to suit the .532" magnum brass head, or the bolt changed. With the powders available today you can do a "soft upgrade" by shooting premium bullets and duplicate the ballistics and effectiveness of the original .30 Holland. This would be the cheap and cheerful approach. jim if you're too busy to hunt, you're too busy.

What does being practical have to do with it?
