I have an engraved mauser sporter that has some nice game scene engraving, but it doesn't stand out because it has been reblued i'm almost certain. I would like to remove the blue from the high spots and leave the blue in the cuts. I don't want to just polish it off as it would damage the engraving.Any suggestions?

Scroll cutter may chime in here.
But I would strip the bluing completely and use rust-o-lium black oil based paint in the cuts.

This is a trick used by a lot of engravers to high light the cuts.
