Dye for epoxy?
Where is a good place to get some type of dye to mix with bedding or Devcon epoxy? I've got a synthetic stock that has a void I'd like to fill.

TIA

Do you have a Home center near you like Lowes Home Depot Etc. ?

Fiberglass resin pigment normally come in small squeeze tubes an are available in the paint or epoxy area of stores .

These are opaque types there are others types nearly any solvent ( Non Water based ) pigments will do fine .

For $100 +/- McMillan will sell you an assortment of dyes that match their molded in colors.

Between them, there isn't much I haven't been able to match.

I'd never thought of using fiberglass pigment homer

fireball168,

I've only got about $100 in this stock, I'm trying to make it work long enough to save up the $ to order a whole stock from McMillan.
But thanks for the info, that sound's like a handy kit to have on hand. Cool

Local hardware store or marine shop should have colored pigment for just such thing. In a pinch a small drop and I mean pin drop of model paint will work but it will thin it quit a bit if you use to much.
I often use it in custom bladesmithing

Dry pigments from artists supplies are very good also.

Hi,

My answer is to visit your local paint store and ask for a amall squirt of their paint pigment in small containers. Any color or shade imaginable is at your disposal. As one poster suggested, you only need a tiny amount of pigment to color your epoxies. Very cost effective, too.

Luck,

Stephen

Rick,

Damn! Wish I had seen this a couple of days ago. I have lots of black colorant if that will help.

For black just use a good clean source of soot. Doesn't take a lot.

Brownells makes Brown and Black dye. Get the small jars of it. The small tubes suck.

Black printer toner works well when you need to dye epoxy black. Its cheap and available at Staples, Office Depot, Kmart, Wal-Mart, etc.
