New guy here. Great board. Are Model 70 push feed extractors difficult to replace? Can they only be purchased from Winchester? Thanks in advance for any input. T

This thread brought back some memories for me. I was stationed in Gunnison Colorado during the mid seventies. I purchased a Winchester M 70 in 22-250 with a varmet weight barrel. I hadn't shot more than two boxes of ammo through it and the extractor was slipping over the rim and causing me problems. I went down to the Forest Service Garage in town and cut a 1/4 x 1/4 piece of metal off an old broken International 3/4 ton 4x4. I can tell you that cutting leaf springs is an experience. I went home and filed a replacement extractor entirely by hand. The only power tool I used was a electric drill with which I drilled the tiny hole and seat for the spring loaded pin. I patterned the new extractor from the old and increasing dimensions to achieve a close fit. that was about 30 years ago. The extractor still works after re-barreling the rifle 4 times. I shot the barrels out at prairie dogs. I cannot guess how many rounds the extractor has extracted. I got to think about 15- 20 thousand.
