Nice Jim!! May I offer a suggestion on bringing out the stock color. Try to use a lighter color back ground cloth. I went to a cloth store and bought a light grey, light green, bright red, and royal blue pieces. My eyes have a hard time trying to see now days and the contrast will help sell more of your work. Jim, Dave Norin showed me a set of the 1920s style QD scope mounts that you made. Beautiful! Won't you post a picture of them here as well? Lovely rifle! Thanks for posting. Nice work! The only problem you may have with it is the separation anxiety of shipping it to someone else after spending many hours building it.
|

Yep, I've thought about that separation anxiety, and I sure hope Jim doesn't have too much trouble with it, because he built that beautiful rifle for me! Aren't I the lucky one? I was fortunate to find such a talented person to help me scratch an itch I've had for a very long time. The niche I envision for this caliber and rifle is pursuit of southern whitetails and perhaps antelope or roe deer. I wanted a classic, svelte rifle with beautiful wood. Looks like Jim delivered! I haven't seen it in person yet, because I'm at my "second home" deep in the Mississippi woods chasing turkeys. Can't wait to get home to Minnesota and handle this rifle. It was a pleasure to deal with Jim on this from start to finish. He is a real professional. Al Spend your life wisely.

How can we relate to this rifle in terms of stock shape inspirement? What inspired this particular stocks shape? I think every rifle should have a theme. The stocks forearm looks too long and out of proportion with the rest of the rifle.

???????????????? You cannot judge the proportion of the fore end unless you have additional pictures showing the full length of the barrel. That might be much too long a forearm for a 16 inch barrel, but my guess is it is perfectly proportioned for the gun. It clearly is very well done. Mr Kobe, I would love to see a close up of the bolt, including an open bolt shot to see the clearance under the scope. I am always looking for examples of the "right" balance of bolt handle design vs low scope clearance. Roger

Man, that is one classy rifle! Congratulations on an excellent piece of craftmanship! I just ran across this post and wanted to say to anyone who may be wondering..............I have had two rifles (.338 WM & .308 Win) built by Mr. Kobe and they are both extremely accurate. Sporter rifles which shoot sniper rifle groups. Fair pricing, better than average turn-a-round, and a smith who listens to what you want. Give him a try; I don't think you will be disappointed. Cheers, Sam
