9.3x57 barrel on a 24/47 yugo

Yentna River9.3x57 barrel on a 24/47 yugo
I just got back from the gunsmith and man am I bummed. I had just recieved a large ring mauser barrel in 9.3x57 with sights and barrel swivel from Numrich and had planned to put it on a yugo 24/47 action. Well,to make a long story short,he wasn't interested in the project, didn't have the reamer, and thought it would be difficult to correctly aline the sights on top and correctly set the head space without buying a reamer. He's a real good guy with a good reputation and he has done work for me in the past that I was more than pleased with. He's just not what you would call a pro metric kind of guy.
So now I've got this barrel and action that I want to put together but I'm not sure if this is a reasonable project or if I should just move on to something else.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

hivelositySteve, Try another smith. nothing diffrent or strange about your request.
A good smith will have no problem with the yugo or any other mauser combination.
rent a reamer for 40 bucks

jeffeossoYou can rent a reamer for 40 bucks, round trip, and it's about a 30 min to 1 hour exercise to get everything lined up.. YES it's a hassle, but not a big one.
GREAT cartridge

Yentna RiverJeffe,
I've read enough of your posts here on AR to know you have quite alot of experiance with mauser actions. I thought your 376 Styre on a mexican small ring was a great combination. I had thought about a 376 on this yugo for a while but decieded on the 9.3x57. Now I need a gunsmith and a reamer.I'll look locally for a smith but were do I rent a 9.3x57 reamer?
Sure would appreciate a point in the right direction.

jeffeossoSteve,
thanks much, but I am still no mauser expert... there's TONS of guys here that forgot TODAY more than i know on mausers ... i just like messing with em!!
http://www.reamerrentals.com/ch tool used to rent them, too
the 376 is an excellent round, and will fit in your action... but it would require a barrel purchase, and it sounds like you already have a barrel.... the 9,3x57 is a FUN round

weagleI'd call Mark Skaggs,
http://www.skaggsgunsmithing.com/index.shtmlHe doesn't list the 9.3 x57 as a round that he has on hand, but he's a great guy yo work with and he can rent reamers locally for pretty much anything.
9.3x57 is one of those rounds I'd like to own also.

manhassetSporter Express sell 9.3x57 bbls. made by Lothar Walter. I think they are long chambered and you don't need a reamer.

Yentna RiverHey guys, all I did was call Numrich Gun Parts and asked if they had a large ring 98 mauser barrel chamberd in 9.3x57 in very good or better condition. The lady I spoke to told me they had a hugh wearhouse and not all the idems are listed on their website. She said it would take a couple of days but would have someone search the wearhouse and if they found one its mine. I work up in Prudoe Bay Ak. on a 2 on 2 off schedule and when I arrived home on tuesday I had the barrel.
Its a 24" light sporter barrel with sights and barrel swivel. There's nothing stamped on the barrel to indicate bore dia. or chambering but it had a tag wired to it that said 9.3x57 and in red ink (not 9x57).I dropped an 8x57 case into the chamber and it fit like a glove.
