I think you will eventually remove the forend sling stud.
I shot mine oneday without thinking with the stud between my middle fingers. It came back and split the webbing between my fingers and took ages to heel.
Yes a barrel band is definitely something you will need to think about.

jeffeossolooking good!

rel15 is slowslow, man ... but, you can get a fireball

buffalook - will try 202 and 203B and see...
The studs were removed before I left Hattings shop with the rifle...

Dont need them. Neither a barrel band - I never use a sling anyway..

buffalotried some fireforming loads yesterday with Rhino15 Powder - about the same as N 203B..
82 grs gave 2200 fps with 500 grs Hornady DGS. Very mild pressures. Wil try 83, 84 and 85 grs next time. I am pretty sure that 2300 - 2350 fps will be very easy to acheive...

jeffeossoi love hearing that ... "with very mild pressures" .. when i loaded the very first ones, i was tenative about it .. and had hoped to make 2200 "please" ... first shot was way over that .. same as my 416 ... 2300 is EASY

I have put your data into quick-load:
112 grs h2o case Capacity
max chamber pressure 4400 BAR (63817 PSI )
500 grs hornady # 4504
Col : 85 mm
85 grs norma 203b = 2270 fps
chamber pressure is 4257 bar
Muzzel pressure 506 Bar
Amount of powder burnt 99,99%
Barrel L. 22"
The same but with 82 grs norma 203B
112 grs h2o case Capacity
500 grs hornady # 4504
Col : 85 mm
82grs norma 203b = 2199 fps
chamber pressure is 3812 bar
Muzzel pressure 497 Bar
Amount of powder burnt 99,81%
Barrel L. 22"
Be aware of the man with only "one" riffel

buffalowill chrono new loads later today, will see how accurate the QL estimates the velocity of the 85 grs loads...
09 September 2010, 12:56
buffaloactually QL was quite accurate. Case cap was 114 grs in fireformed 375 RUM brass compared to 110,5 grs in non fireformed RUM brass (the loads and velocities I mentioned above)
85 grs gave 2222 fps
83 grs gave 2152 fps
That was with the Hornady DGS bullets
83 grs behind the 500 grs Barnes Banded Solid gave 2215 fps
Will try 87, 88 and 89 grs Rhino 15 (same as 203B) later with the DGS and 84 grs with the Barnes Banded...
After that I will try some faster N 202 / Rhino 14 powder

right Jeffe.
F215 primer..
Tried 87, 88 and 89 grs Rhino15/203B today, - but still onlt 2200 - 2235 fps - seems like this powder is too slow / barrel too short to increase vel further
Will try 202/Rhino 14 and hopefylly VVN540 asap
10 September 2010, 01:46
jeffeossoisn't that an odd problem to have? Running out of barrel, and still being low enough pressure to "be fine"
thanks for sharing the loads

buffaloNew data with RHINO 14 powder. About the same as Norma 202.
500 grs Hornady DGS solids:
85grs - 2274 fps
86 grs - 2294 fps
87 grs - 2324 fps
88 grs - 2345 fps
500 grs Barnes Banded Solids:
84 grs - 2295 fps
85 grs - 2341 fps
No highpressure signs at all - though I know I am closing in...
Have settled on 86 grs R14 / DGS solid and 84 grs/ for the Barnes solid - both giving around 2300 fps..

jeffeossoUlrik -- LOL .. great news.. and sorry you have to "settle" for a moderate pressure 2300 fps!
remember, add 15 fps to get "real" mv
