I was looking at a mauser 98 in 30-06 today and noticed the action just forward of the bolt (when closed) is ground at a 45 degree angle. Is there a reason for this, could it be fixed or should I just leave it where it is..

Thanks, John

If you are referring to the back side of the rear bridge, that is the extraction cam that causes the bolt to be forced rearward when the bolt handle is lifted. Don't mess with it.

I sould have taken a photo, it is forward of the bolt handle while the bolt is closed. The action body itself is ground?
