Hi! Does anybody know when Talons were made. I found one marked G. McMillan&co. I tracked the original owner and he claims it's almost 30 years old. Can this be correct?
I'm not much help on when McMillan started building Talons, but I was on the bad end of a Talon project built up by Harris Gunworks in the late 1990s. My understanding then was that Gale had ceased making full-up rifles to concentrate on stocks, and sold the rights to and would make actions for Wes Harris (who later shut down the rifle business and last I heard was making military contract AR barrels!). Then later the sons got back into the rifle trade with "McBros" actions. The Talon was a round bottomed action of a controlled round feed design.

I have searched the net for any information I could find on the Talons, Harris, McMillan etc. Unfortunately there is not much to be found and noone seems keen to talk about it. I can understand why but it's still a bit frustrating.
The magazine box on the .375 I found seems to be altered or exchanged and needs some fixing. Right now there is a standard Remington ADL long action box inside. There could be some minor modifications but it's definately made from an ADL box. Unfortunately it only works perfect until you fire the gun. Recoil makes it shift position a little and then bluntnosed bullets jam. What is your magazine box like? Is it possible for you to send me a picture of the magazine box?
I believe the sequence for the "Talon" from start to finish was G. McMillon, Harris-McMillon and Harris Talon.
I have a Harris-McMillon switch barrel set up in 338/378 and 460 Weatherby. It basically looks just like a pre-64 Model 70 when it comes to the magazine, floorplate and trigger guard. Later ones had one piece setups.
There also was a gun made by G. McMillon that preceded the TAlon. This gun had a octagon receiver with integral bases. These are very rare and only about 50 were made. They are giant actions and easily take a 505 Gibbs and have an internal magazine length of almost 4". I have one of these in 416 Rigby.
All of the guns that I have heard of are very accurate. Some of the smaller details were not very well done sometimes and it seems like they never did exactly what a customer ordered. Still mine is very reliable and extremely accurate.
