Would the safety be different than one for a CF? I have a receiver at the gunshop that just arrived. I can't pick it up until Tuesday, so I can't look at it until then. Any help out there?

Butch,
The only variable between a RF & CF is the bolt & bolt stop.
Trigger groups are the same.

Dan,
I'm speaking about putting a CR Remington 3 POS safety on the bolt. I will not pick up the receiver until Tuesday. I know the bolt and bolt stop are different, but are the cocking pieces the same?

Butch,
The firing pin striker/cocking piece is the same as in a center fire.

The striker/cocking piece is the firing pin stop in a rimfire action.

3 POS safety and cocking piece ordered from PT&G. He makes a cocking piece that is more friendly to the 3 POS.

Butch, Does PTG provide installation instructions with the safety? Do you know if the cocking piece that he provides needs fitting/modification? Or, if you get the safety and cocking piece together is it basically a drop in? I like the look and price of his.

Dave said something about this cocking piece being easier to fit the 3 POS. You will still have to cut the groove in it I believe. I hope instructions come with it.

Butch,

I ordered a PT&G 3-pos safety and steel bottom metal from Dave about 10 months ago. Got the bottom metal rather quickly, but found out from Ashley, they were not making any more 3-pos safeties. With that in mind I found another source for the safety and shroud and am happy with what I received. About 2 months ago appears in my mailbox, a 3-pos safety and shroud from PT&G. What the heck? Now I have 2. A short story long. The safety arrived as loose pieces in a baggie with no instructions. The cocking piece will need a 35-45 degree angle ground off of the off side on the front and a small half-moon slot milled at the appropriate point on the back of the bolt for the bolt lock feature. Dakota 3-pos safeties come with instructions and are easy to follow. My recollection is they will work for nearly all 3-pos installs. I have the instructions on my bench some where if you would like a copy. Go slowly when grinding the angle. One wants to just remove enough to allow the safety lever to function and cam the firing pin rearward a few thousandths.

More than you wanted, eh?

Butch,
Beware of MIM/sintered aftermarket strikers.
If striker appearance is matte/bead blasted-PITCH IT!!
Firing Pin cocking piece/finger will break off striker.

Install/fit an OEM Rem case hardened striker.
