You offered to let me know about an intermediate Mauser action once I got more details.

The action my smith has is a 'Waffen Fabrik Obendorf Mauser' It is apparently large ring with a small ring thread.

Any weight, length or indeed any advantage on an 09 The plan was to use it for a 243 or suchlike as a light(ish) deer rifle.

1894,

I'm not Ray but I thought that I could throw a couple of things out for discussion.

These dimensions apply to Intermediate Mausers.

Length - 8.750" (22.24 cm)
Bolt Length - 6.165" (15.7 cm)
Ring Diameter - 1.410" (3.58 cm)
Ring Length - 1.890" (4.80 cm)

A better description can be had with a serial number and all of the proof marks on the receiver, description of the bolt handle and any marks under the bolt handle. I know the last one sounds strange but the Turks put their crest under their bolt handles.

This can be a lot of fun!

Bill

You have an Obendorf Large ring small thread action and that is a super desirable action any way you cut it....What is the Crest on top of the receiver ring and below that there should be a date???

At any rate you have the best of the best.

It is apparently an AN commercial sporting action ex Zambia (?game department) and 'short 7mm' I can't get a serial number at present.

I had thought to make up a classic 256mannlicher with irons (none of my others have) and detachable 4x scope. If my stalking remains the same at least I can change my style

Is it practicaly any better than an 09 Argentine?

1894,
You have a fine action, none better, you can do anything you want with that one, It sounds like a Mauser A rifle, as that is what most of the African Game depts. had at one time...At any rate it's an Oberndorf and thats the majic word....
