I have a dilemna. I was able to make a great deal on several sets of the old Warne Premier QD rings. Unfortunately not all of them came with the lever, but instead some of them had the thumbknob take down. I REALLY dislike the thumbknob. Warne still has the levers and nuts in stock since the Maxima QD rings use them. But the Maximas uses a different screw for the lever to mount on. It is still a 10-32 but it has a small shoulder at the end instead of being straight.

So I guess what I am looking for is either a suitable screw to replace the thumbknob one with and I will order levers and nuts from Warne. Or I can swap them all over to a single allen head screw. But then I still need to find a better quality screw than what the local Ace hardware carries. I did get some screws from Ace and it will work but I would rather have higher quality so the under side of the screw head will seat tight and also for the blued rings I would like find some screws with a finish that matches.

For the QD to work I would need 10-32 with an OAL of 1.08". The head diameter is .245" and .075 thick. The threads take up .85" of the shank with the area between the top of the threads and the underside of the head being unthreaded and .145". The underside of the head is turned flat and smooth.

To just replace the the QD with a screw I need a 1/2" 10-32 but I am having a hard time finding one that has the underside of the screw head turned flat and true.

If anyone has any ideas or knows of a source for specialty screws and quality screws I would sure appreciate your input.

I did try Brownells and they dont carry anything that would work. I have attached some pics so you can see what I am talking about and how it looks with the new screws replacing the knob. I would like you opinions on how it looks with the screws.

With the take down lever.

Thumb knob take down.

Take down lever type dis-assembled.

With replacement screw.

Bill,

I have un-threaded #10 screw blanks that are 2 ⅜ inches long. They are square on the bottom of the head and all you would need to do is thread them and cut them off to length.

I’ll send you a half dozen if you give me your new address.
