I'm tired of the crappy tupperware stock on my ADL and am considering new wood or laminate (stocky's has some on sale/clearance right now). If I do it, I want to go ahead and add a floorplate. I've done some research and know pretty much what has to happen to get it the way I want. Here's what I'm not sure about. Ive seen "kits" to convert adl to bdl that include bottom metal, magazine box, follower and spring. I know that the bottom has to be replaced, but don't understand also replacing the box, spring, and follower. Won't they just be the same? I can understand possibly needing a longer spring, but I don't see how this will affect the box or follower. FiSTers... Running is useless.

Not sure on the follower but I believe the box on the ADL is shorter since it stops within the stock. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

the ADL box is longer and attaches to the receiver with a screw- the BDL box is sandwiched between the receiver and the trigger guard so its shorter- with a little whittling you can put the BDL guard in the ADL stock- you will have to pull the ft guard screw escutcheon. That's what God made Epoxy for!!

If you have a short action, get over to Ebay. Bottom metal and stocks for short actions. ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

You don't need a new spring or follower. Just buy a new stock already inlet for BDL, then buy some BDL bottom metal. PTG offers a pretty nice unit for not much more than the crappy pot metal factory stuff. You can use your ADL mag box if you shorten it. It's a pretty quick job, but a new BDL box is only a few dollars from Brownell's, so it may not be worth it to you.

Thanks fellas. The box I can def. understand. It was really the spring and the follower that I was unsure about. I knew I'd have to get a stock, possibly do some inletting, get the bottom metal, and get it all fitted together. I just wasn't sure why the "kits" included so much stuff. FiSTers... The box, follower and spring might be needed if changing calibers-like 223 to 243- the 223 follower is shorter and needs a spacer for the box.The boxes are different too though the same length.

Not real sure why you want to change it to a BDL. There is little or no advantage. It just adds expence and more things to go wrong. I have never had an ADL dump all my cartridges on the ground, but a BDL has, right after the first shot. This very bad to have happen on DG. Not much fun on Elk or Deer, either. Just my opinion..........Tom SCI lifer NRA Patron DRSS DSC

I want to replace the crappy factory stock. I'm also getting tired of having to crank out each round after I leave the woods. So I figure that if I'm going to bother with the stock, I might as well fix the other thing I don't like also. FiSTers... Running is useless.

Wouldn't it be simplier and cheaper to sell the ADL and replace it with a BDL? As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Possibly, but other than a stock, it's a great rifle and shoots really well. Also, I don't sell my guns and never will. Once I buy it, it's mine until I die. FiSTers... Running is useless.

Fair enough! Take a look at Boyds' stocks in laminate. They need pillar bedding, but work well for me and you usually don't have to wait 6 months to get them.......Tom SCI lifer NRA Patron DRSS DSC

Yeah, Stocky's has Boyds stocks on clearance right now, so that's what I was thinking. FiSTers... Running is useless.
