Ruger's Gray Coating?
What is the gray coating used on the Ruger M77 varmint rifles? Where can you get this done?

Any bluing shop. I believe Stainless Steel turns that color when run through a hot bluing process.

i believe malm is correct. i once rebarreled a gun for a customer with what was supposed to be a chrome moly barrel. when it was blued we found out it was actually stainless steel. it turned ruger target gray.

malm's right

specifically, the matte gray is beadblasted then blued... i don't know what polished stainless does in a bluing tank...
