Any tips?
I'm going to add another cross bolt between the mag. box and trigger before we start.
Do I need anymore of them?

Thanks

I'm sure one has broken a stock sometime, but it doesn't seem to be a big problem with the Rugers. Of course adding a crossbolt wouldn't hurt anything either.

My RSM 375H&H was inletted exceptionally well from the factory. The barreled action fit square and level in the inletting and it shot remarkably well out of the box. I decided to let it be and use it. I regularly checked the torque on the action screws and pulled it down often to inspect the stock for damage.

During my last inspection I discovered a crack beginning in the web between the trigger group and mag box. If I had let it go it would probably result in major stock damage.

It has been written many times about the importance of reinforcing this area of a bigbore rifle. Our own Jeffeosso and others have preached this many times in the past on AR. I was stubborn w/ the opinion that it was not needed on the lesser 375H&H. I'm now of the opinion that it is a must on any wood or laminate stock shooting a magnum caliber. This is one of the weakest parts of the stock as when it compresses the forces generated work on that webbing like a wood splitting axe.

You can greatly increase the strength of this area by avoiding unneeded removal of wood during inletting, using a hidden crossbolt, a Remington style threaded pin or a full blown crossbolt, etc.

Sorry for the long speech,
Gary
