Remington 783 light primer strikes

In addition to an unscrewed FP tip, 783's can give light primer strikes due to excessive friction between the cocking piece sear face and the top of the trigger sear. The 783 trigger is a single stage override type. Unlike the Rem 700 trigger sear which has angled contacts between the cocking piece sear surface and the sear, the 783 surfaces are flat. Thus the CP must push the hinged sear over and down as it rides over it. This sear has an very strong spring under it and it takes a fair amount of force to overcome it. So much so, that it can slow the FP fall and causes FTF's and light indents. In our shop, we grind 5-10 thou off the bottom of the CP to reduce engagement and polish it real good. There is ample engagement and this does not affect safety. Alternately, you could substitute a lighter sear spring.
