Wondering what is a rough typical weight? Or maybe how much is usually lost in weight from blank to finished stock would be a better question.

I haven't seen that discussed here before, so thought I would inquire, and seeing what Duane has done with the scholarship rifle poked my interest.

Many Thanks

While I've had a couple blanks roughed for me I didn't weigh a before and after. The two I had were two completly different sizes. One had a lot of waste the next was a tight fit and minimum waste.

One of the experts might be able to give you a ball park rule of thumb.

As usual just my $.02

I have a lot of wood and I can tell you that every one of them is different. Not only is the size of each blank different but the wood itself varies in weight.

I don't think you could give any kind of answer that would be of any use. I've seen blanks that were 4" thick and ones so thin you almost couldn't use them........some you can't use.

Take care,
