The "Wylde" chamber is a variant of the 223Rem chamber that was developed by Bill Wylde, widely known as the grandfather Yoda of the Match AR15. He actually designed it to shoot Ball Ammo accurately and reliably out of the semi auto M16. It has body dimensions same as 5.56 NATO, but the throat is more closely matched to bullet diameter. It happens to shoot match bullets very well too and is one of the most popular Service Rifle Match Chambers.

So one of those nice RRA uppers will chamber your garden-variety .223 Rem ammo, I take it?

Rootbeer, Go ahead and shoot any 223 ammo through the Wylde chamber,no problem. I have 2 John Holliger uppers set up with it and the whole NYS Service rifle team uses it as well. It's a good compromise between the long Colt chamber and the shorter Compass Lake reamer.
