i'm about to bed a weatherby vanguard with the b&c composite stock with the spider web paint job on it. i planned to put mold release wax on the stock then tape it and mold release the tape also.worried about getting the wax off the stock when the job is done. any better ideas or information about what i'm planning to do would be appreciated.
I've never put anything on the stock. Always just taped it tight and really worked the tape into the texture. I use Hornady one shot case lube for the action and screws. I just did this recently for two HS precisions using Devcon. When it was a teeny bit setup I ran a sharp toothpick to cause a crease in the overflow by the tang and shank. Came off easy.
Put the masking tape on and then tap on the tape with the bristles of a stiff hair brash or pot scrubbing brush. The stiff bristles will drive the tape deep into the textured finish of the paint and it will stick like the dickens. I do the same when I mask checkering when refinishing. Works GREAT !
When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years! Rod Henrickson
