I have been away from rifle projects for a while ( Had way more than enough guns)

Are any of the old guys that did re-boring still active,? any new Blood to take up the specialty?

Your knowledgeable recommendations would be appreciated,
Thanks in advance.

I have been looking for a smith to rebore/ rechamber a 375 H&H to 404 Jeffery for about 3 mos. & this is what I have found.
1. Jess Ocumpaugh is working & does very good work at very reasonable cost & excellent turn around time.
2. Dan Peterson is working but as of today is not excepting any work due to the ITAR trick.
3. Al Siegrist is working & taking work.
4. Randy Selby is working but be setting down when you see his quote.
5.John Taylor is working & taking work.
6. Norm Johnson is apparently not taking work. I have called & no answer several times. Talked to his wife & was informed the only way to reach him was email. After numerous email attempts w/o reply I gave up.
7. Redmans does not do 423s
This may not answer your question but is what I have found to date.

I just had Jess Ocumpaugh do a Rem. M30 from 30.06 to .35 Whelen.

He got it in on 7/5 and sent it back on 7/15.

The job looks great, will be shooting in a couple of weeks.

A pleasure to deal with also, be aware only by phone, no email, but he does return calls.

Jess has a very good reputation & wish all smiths were as professional as he is when dealing with clients.
He would have my work on this project but he doesn't have the tooling for the .423 ( 404 Jeffery ). He will definitely get any work I have that he has tooling for.

"as of today" does not really matter--
discussions with ATF and homeland indicate "it has been in effect for several years, just not ROUTINELY enforced"

So, technically ANY work done since the participation in the "agreement" is subject to the fines-
so if you made the machine "cut" today , tomorrow or at anytime since the beginning if the "agreement/treaty/fiat"
you can be scrutinized in the same manner

J.E.S. Reboring is still advertising in Rifle Mag. Might be worth a call. Maybe other AR memebers will chime in on their quality. CB

last I heard, Dan was quoting delivery times in terms of the next presidential election. As bad as Ed Rayl...

JES does great work. It's just a case of getting them to answer the phone.

Norm Johnson is hard to get hold of as he is so damn busy, but email him and keep trying, his turn around time is reasonable, for the very reason he doesn't spend much time on the phone or emailing, he is working..To me his work is among the very best if not the best, and its worth the trouble to contact him so just keep trying is my advise, but to each his own on that.
