Chic;

I know this should be on the "Shotgunning" forum, but I wanted to get your attention, and I thought this would be the best place. I saw your posts regarding the Khan shotguns on another forum.

I have heard conflicting reports on the Khan shotguns, (yours being one of a positive nature) could you elaborate on your experiences with the one (ones) that you have.

It seems that most people that have actually owned one are very pleased with the relative cost/quality.

I put money down on a 28ga yesterday. I was impressed with the quality compared to the other inexpensive O/Us I have handled.

It seems to stand head and shoulders above the Baikals, Stoegers etc.

Have you had a chance to inspect the "interals" yet?

Your opinion would hold great sway with me.

I bought a Khan 20 gauge for my son last year. I am very impressed with it in regard to fit and finish. My Verona 20/28 is my go to skeet gun and it had to go back for warranty trigger work just recently and the Khan has been standing in for it.

We have probably shot 750 to 1000 rounds thru it and it has performed flawlessly. I did buy a 28 gauge from Century but I returned it. It had numerous problems and I think they were trying to pass off a previous return on me. It had way too many things wrong with it to have made it past any quality control, and I am sure they have some. The most critical problem was that when the bottom barrel was selected first, the upper barrel would not fire second. It does not have inertia triggers so it wasn't that. It went back and I bought the Verona.

You will love the 28 gauge. I shoot it 75% of the time at skeet and 100% of the time on Quail, 50% on chukars.

Chic;

Thanks for the prompt response. As I have only placed a deposit on the shotgun, I will go back and check out the function more thoroughly tommorow.

The Khan shotguns that the shop has are "clearance" guns and as such I wonder if they could also be returns. We are not far from VT, so Century Arms is fairly close if I have problems.

I could find no obvious problems other than a rather crude checkering job. That would be easy to correct. I did dry fire it and both barrels seemed to fire OK but I will play with the selector and check the function of the firing pins with the barrels off so I can tell if the pins are indeed protruding as they should.

The trigger pulls were surprisingly light and consistant albeit a little "gritty" with some creep. I think I have eniough experience to correct that flaw also, but to be honest, the triggers are as good or better than 90% of the shotguns I have handled.

What kind of loads do you use in the 28?

Do you reload for the 28, and if you do could you give me some advice on components?

One thing to be careful of with the barrel selector. If you put it in the middle it will fire BOTH barrels. They even tell you that, you would think they would make it so it wouldnt. My son did it once.

I had a chance to give the gun a good going over.

With the barrels removed and the bolt released, I dropped the strikers on both barrel, both in the U/O order and in reverse order.

A nickle that was placed over the firing pins was proppeled upward, bouncing off of the ceiling. There should not be any problem with weak primer strikes!

No problem with either barrel, regardless of the order they were dry fired in. Bottom barrel pull @ 4 1/4#s, top @ 4#s.

I did notice that the firing pins are not the rebounding type, but they retract when the bolt lever is pushed to open the action.

In could find no flaws other than the checkering needing some sprucing up.
