458 barrel length

a thread i saw got me thinking. how short could you build a 458 win mag barrel without loseing velocity or accuracy. I tend to like short barrels???

As to accuracy the shorter barrel is often more accurate. Long barrel for accuracy is more tied to sight radius. Longer sight radius more accuracy.

Don't know what length you want but with a 500gr going from 24 to 20" the loss is 88fps for a 350 the loss would be 103fps per QL. Tha tis with the same powder. You might pick some of that back up with a faster powder.

Just make it a 458 lott, even at 16 1/2" it'll be faster than a 26" 458 win mag.
