I am thinking about glass bedding my rem 700 sps with the miles gilbert kit. Has anyone bedded their sps or similar rifle? Good or bad results? I am partial to a fully free floated barrel. How far in front of the recoil lug should be bedded? Any opinions, tips, advice etc. are appreciated.

My experience with glass bedding is only with Brownell's gel...other products may be as good...no advice here RE: bedding the barrel.....IMO a dollar bill needs to slide between barrel and stock all the way to the receiver.....however a bit short ...mybe an inch or so...may not hurt anything. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." It has been my experience that the vast majority of rifles will shoot better, and with more consistent accuracy, when pillar bedded and the barrel fully free floated. If you happen to get one of the exceptions it ain’t a big deal to go back and bed an inch or two in front of the lug later on. I always use Devcon expoxy but have also heard really good things about Marine Tex and also Acra Glass and Gel. I think any of those will do a good job for you. The Acra Gel is a bit easier to use since it doesn’t run as much as the Glass, and both of these and the Marine Tex are quite a bit cheaper than the Devcon products. The Brownell’s products have better instructions that are specific to rifles.
