Pulled the stock off of a new(to me) Savage 99 to work on it a bit and clean. Slot in the screw is a bit hard to get to, so I thought I would change it to a hex head bolt. Its a 5/16, but what the heck is the thread pitch? The local Ace hardware didnt have anything quite right. Any help would be appreciated!

If you can't find a replacement bolt you can cut off the slotted screw head and weld on a hex nut. I think Numrich has replacement stock bolts for the 99's.

I was thinking the same thing myself a few weeks back. It's a 5/16-22 thread. If you find something that works in a hex head, get one for me. There's a guy on the 99 forum that actually found a die set for 5/16-22, 55Ëš but it's a British thread and he's not sure if it will work. Rob
