Talley QD ring?

I am currently in the process of milling some bases for talley QD rings and the book with the dimensions does not list what the outside dimension is on the base area of the ring. I am wanting the sides of the bases to closely match the rings.

Does anyone know what the average measurement is?

Just measure the rings! With that in mind, you will notice that if you make the bases to match the rings, they will not be even from side to side if measuring off the dovetail centerline; you will have more material on one side than the other and it will look awkward.

Its a wierd story, but basically I am a gunmithing student and ran into a little extra time before I graduate into stockbuilding section. Due to the short time frame and the "on the spot" decision to do this I wont be able to get the rings in time to measure them.

I'll ask this, how wide do you usually make the bases?

Aaron

Ring sets that I measured run from .820 to .835 wide. These measurements was on new and installed rings, both 1 inch and 30 MM.

Hmm.. looks like you are on mill 3? Facing basics?

Glad to see David and Mike are pushing you guys to produce top quality rifles. When I had 2 weeks to kill in machine shop I was not allowed to do anything fun like that!

Believe I am on Mill 2 with this project. I went through the actual mill class on mill 1. the Digital Read-out is NICE!

Mike is in D&F, and David is still in machine shop. Although this little extra credit project of mine is out of the norm, I have been lucky to have an open machine, and a lot of help from Dave and Tim. Learned many new things on the mill with this little project that I otherwise wouldnt have learned until later in school.
